The amenity spaces celebrate and respect the rich history within the Navy Yard itself, while simultaneously supporting the local artist and makers community so prevalent with the borough of Brooklyn today.
A large research effort began in 2017, scheduling studio visits and meeting artists and fabricators throughout the city, seeing who might be a good fit for the project. This resulted in partnering with a handful of local fabricators in Brooklyn to produce a custom furniture collection, four artists to create large scale murals at the entrance procession, as well as local mirror fabricators, Bower Studios, to create a customized collection of mirrors for the conference center.
Each of the muralists and artisans naturally found inspiration within the Brooklyn Navy Yard itself: sun-faded colors, textures, piles of materials, and ship markings. This created a surprising consistency within all of the work specifically created for this space; one that can only be found at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
